Shaker Women's Double Medals at SRAA Nationals!
30 May 2008
Congratulations to our Shaker H.S. Crew for capturing a silver medal in the Women's Junior Girls 2x at the Scholastic Rowing Association national championships in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Cara Murphy, stroke and Hattie Gemerchak, bow, both sophomores, took second place in their heat, and continued strong in the finals, with a time of 6:06.8 in a fierce battle at the finish - they beat the third place crew by less than a second, and lost to St. John the Baptist double who had a 6:02.08. The Murphy/Gemerchak 2x, coached by Sharon Romilly, has quite a medal haul, with bronze at Hoover, gold at Pittsburgh, and silver at MSRAs.
St. Ignatius Claims Fifth Consecutive Midwest Champ Title
20 Sep 2007
May 2008 - A big congratulations goes out to St. Ignatius for its championship effort at winning its 5th consecutive (and 7th overall) Midwest Scholastic Rowing Championship at Lake Harsha in Cincinnati Ohio on May 11. And, a "way to go" to Shaker H.S. for bringing home the Bronze in the Women's Varsity 2x. In the finals, both the Wildcat Navy's 2nd Varsity 8+ and its Novice 8, both with an undefeated season, fought to the finish for Gold. Its Varsity 8+ place 5th (2nd through 5th place were overlapping), the Varsity Ltwt 8+ finished 3rd (Top 3 boats overlapping), and the Junior 8+ and the Freshman 8+ took Silver. This medal haul again vaulted St. Ignatius to the top of the points tally, and the team brought back yet another Midwest Championship title. Impressive work, gentlemen, and a congratulations to all Wildcat coaches and crews.

The Cleveland Rowing Foundation operates the only boathouse in northeast Ohio, attracting over 800 high school, collegiate and adult athletes to the banks of the Cuyahoga River in downtown Cleveland. From March to November, our facility is bustling with activity and open 7 days a week.
Rowing, long an Olympic sport, continues to grow in popularity. Title 9 and the NCAA have brought significant strides in women's collegiate rowing, which is now a varsity sport with scholarships at over 80 colleges and universities in the US. That in turn has been a catalyst for high school rowing programs all over the country. And because the physics of rowing delivers an outstanding workout with low joint impact, it truly is a life-long activity that keeps rowers on the water through their 70s and 80s.
We offer learn to row sessions for adults, and have many programs for high school and college students who want to try recreational as well as competitive crew. We are committed to bringing rowing to many segments of our community, and offer rowing for the visually impaired, urban youth, and the physically challenged.
The Cleveland Rowing Foundation is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that promotes and shares the athletic, health, educational and social benefits of rowing throughout Greater Cleveland. The CRF works in concert with community partners to enhance the recreational quality of the Cuyahoga River.
Welcome to our site, and we hope to see you on the dock soon.
